What is Altace?

Altace is in a group of drugs called ACE inhibitors. ACE stands for angiotensin converting enzyme. Altace is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), heart failure, and improved survival after a heart attack. Altace can also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide. Important information about Altace Do not use this medicine without telling your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy. Altace could cause birth defects in babies, if you take the medication during pregnancy. Using an effective form of birth control. End of the use of this product immediately and inform your doctor if you are pregnant during treatment. Avoid drinking alcohol. It may even lower your blood pressure and may increase some side effects of Altace. Do not use salt substitutes or potassium supplements while taking Altace, unless your doctor. Vomiting, diarrhea or heavy perspiration can cause you to become dehydrated. This can lead to very low blood pressure, electrolyte disturbances, renal or while you are taking Altace. Drink plenty of water each day, while you are taking this medicine. Before taking Altace Do not use this medicine if you are allergic to ramipril or to any other ACE inhibitor, as benazopril (Lotensin), captopril (Capoten), fosinopril (Monopril), enalapril (Vasotec), lisinopril (Prinivil, Zestril), moexipril (Univasc), perindopril (Aceon), quinapril (Accupril), or trandolapril (Mavik). Before using Altace, talk to your doctor if you are allergic to any medications, or if you have: The kidney disease (or if you are on dialysis); Liver disease; Heart disease or heart failure; Diabetes; or A connective tissue diseases such as Marfan's syndrome, Sjogren's syndrome, lupus, scleroderma and rheumatoid arthritis. If you have any of these conditions, you may not be able to use Altace, or you may need a dosage adjustment or special tests during treatment. FDA pregnancy category D. Do not use this medicine without telling your doctor if you are pregnant or planning a pregnancy. Altace could cause birth defects in babies, if you take the medication during pregnancy. Altace can pass into breast milk and can affect a nursing baby. Do not use this medicine without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. How do I take Altace? Take this medication exactly as it was prescribed for you. Do not take the drug in large quantities, or to take longer than recommended by your doctor. Follow the instructions on your prescription label. Your doctor may change your dose from time to time to ensure you get the best results for this medicine. Take each dose with a full glass of water. Altace can be taken with or without food. Vomiting, diarrhea or heavy perspiration can cause you to become dehydrated. This can lead to very low blood pressure, electrolyte disturbances, renal or while you are taking Altace. Drink plenty of water each day, while you are taking this medicine. To make sure the medication is to help your state, your blood pressure should be checked on a regular basis. Your liver or renal function may also need to be tested. Do not miss any scheduled visits to your doctor. If you need to have a kind of surgery say in advance that you are taking Altace. You may need to stop using the drug for a short time. If you are being treated for high blood pressure, to continue to use this drug even if you feel well. Hypertension is often no symptoms. Altace Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat. What happens if I miss a dose? Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take medicine regularly at the next scheduled time. Do not take additional medicines to compensate for the missed doses. What happens if I overdose? Search emergency physician if you think you have used too much of this product. Altace symptoms of an overdose may include feeling extremely dizzy or light-headed, or fainting. What should I avoid while taking Altace? Avoid drinking alcohol. It may even lower your blood pressure and may increase some side effects of Altace. Do not use salt substitutes or potassium supplements while taking Altace, unless your doctor. Altace side effects Obtain an ambulance if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction: hives; severe stomach pain and breathing difficulties; swelling of the face, lips, or throat. Call your doctor immediately if you have any of these serious side effects: Sensation of light headed, fainting; Uriner more or less than usual, or not at all; Fever, chills, pain, symptoms of influenza; Pallor of the skin, bruising or bleeding; Feeling fatigue, muscle weakness, and beating or irregular heartbeat; Chest discomfort, or Swelling, rapid weight gain. Less serious side effects may be more likely to occur, such as: Cough; Dizziness, drowsiness, headaches; Problems with sleep (insomnia); Decreased libido, impotence, or difficulty reaching orgasm; Nausea, vomiting, or Soft itching or rash. Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome. What other drugs affect Altace? Before taking Altace, talk to your doctor if you are taking any of the following medicines: At lithium (Lithobid, Eskalith); Additional potassium such as K-Dur, Klor - Con; Salt substitutes containing potassium; Aspirin and other NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) such as ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil), diclofenac (Voltaren), etodolac (Lodine), indomethacin (Indocin), ketoprofen (Orudis), naproxen (Aleve, Naprosyn ), and other, or A diuretic (water pills). If you use any of these medications, you may not be able to use Altace or you may need dosage adjustments or special tests during treatment. There may be other drugs not listed that may affect Altace. Tell your doctor about all other prescription and non-prescription drugs you are using. This includes vitamins, minerals, products made from plants, and medications prescribed by other doctors. Do not start using a new drug without telling your doctor. Where can I get more information? Other brand or generic formulations may also be available. Ask your pharmacist your questions about this product, especially if it is new to you.
